Family Vacation: Niagara Falls & the Erie Canal

Horseshoe Falls

Horseshoe Falls

Today we took a break from church history sites and focused on national sites. (Though it is recorded that Joseph Smith and some other brethren did go to the Niagara’s…so maybe it is still church history). We spent the afternoon looking at the amazing falls. We were all surprised at how windy the top of the falls are. Take a look at Addyline’s hair in these pictures.

We had lots of fun and even got a little wet, especially when we went down to the bottom of American Falls. Though many said that the Canadian side gives the best views, I thought we could see the falls beautifully! What a great experience for us all. Here are a few more pictures of the falls and us enjoying them.

Oh, the funniest thing we saw at the Niagara Falls state park was a sign. The kids found it so funny we had to take a picture of it…with them breaking the rule it stated. We still can’t figure out how you were supposed to walk on the side walk if you weren’t allowed to stand 🙂

After visiting the falls we headed on our quest to follow the Erie Canal. Lots of opportunities were open up to the United States through the many canals, especially the Erie canal, that are throughout this region of the U.S. We were able to walk along the Erie Canal in the small town of Medina and even found the only place you can actually drive under the Erie Canal. The kids loved seeing the canal and the tunnel (and we are just glad no one fell in).
