Great Britain: London

Big Ben

Big Ben

We spent today in the big city of London. The quietness of the Scotland left far behind in the bustling city. We did not dare drive in London so we took the London’s underground, on of the busiest subway systems in the world. We didn’t start our trip until 10:00 so we missed the morning rush, but on the way home we were riding at 6:00 there was hardly even standing room!

We decided to tour London from the top of a double-decker bus, on of the best ways to see and hear about London. Our British guide was educational and entertaining. Here is an incomplete list of things we saw while riding the bus: Trafalgar Square, St. James Palace, Ritz Hotel, Hyde Park, Speaker’s Corner (also a place of interest for church history buffs), Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and the houses of Parliament just to name a few.

At the Houses of Parliament we decided to get of the bus and walk a while. We walked by of course the Houses of Parliament, Westminster and Big Ben.

We then hoped on a boat on the river Thames, to see London from a different view. We saw the London Bridge and the Tower Bridge. Addyline loved seeing the bridge that the song was written about. The London Bridge is really not that spectacular looking pretty much like any bridge but the Tower Bridge is beautiful.

We ended the day by walking to Piccadilly Circus (London’s Time Square). We walked around a little then headed back down into the London Tube. Over all it was a very fun and very tiring day.
